Ending stigma, protecting rights
Our mission, vision and values
Our Mission
We provide advocacy for people who use drugs and work towards protecting their civil liberties and human rights within services.
Our Vision
That people who use drugs are treated with equality and respect and have a voice where decisions affecting their life are made.
Our Values
People who use drugs have rights, but not all people know how to stand up for them or don’t know change is possible. People’s rights are not always respected, protected nor fulfilled.

Ending stigma, protecting rights
The community of people who use drugs also experience difficulties in claiming and asserting their rights equally. Although there continues to be support towards the community of people who use drugs, their rights are still not fully embedded in Ireland.
Decision-makers and services routinely make decisions that affect the community of people who use drugs without considering their rights, and many people who use drugs experience high levels of inequality, discrimination and stigmatisation.
UISCE works to ensure the rights of the community are protected in legislation, that their voices are heard and prioritised in any relevant decision-making process and, overall, UISCE works to empower the community of people who use drugs to know their rights and how to stand up for them.
Three strands of the work
Rights protected in legislation
Working to ensure the rights of the community are protected in law, not left to the discretion of individual services.
Voices heard and prioritised
Making sure the community is heard and prioritised in any decision-making process that affects their lives.
Knowing your rights
Empowering people who use drugs to know what their rights are, and how to stand up for them.
